You must have a valid driver’s license to drive a car anywhere in the United States. Each state in the United States issues its own driver’s license. To drive a car in Texas you must have a valid Texas driver’s license. Issued by the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) the driver’s license or state I.D. card serves as the primary identification document. The Texas Driver’s License is a nationally accepted form of identification that can be used to establish your identity. Anyone who has a driver’s license issued by another U.S. state may drive in Texas for only 90 days on that license. Foreign nationals may drive on their foreign driver’s license for a period of up to one year, provided they have an International Driver’s Permit (IDP). The IDP is a document secured in one’s home country of origin and serves only as a valid translation of a home country driver’s license. It may not be used by itself, as the official home country driver’s license must accompany it to be considered a valid driving document. Please check with your home country government office on how to obtain an IDP in your home country application for texas driver license
